Investigative psychology is a new area of forensic psychology, which attempts to apply elements of science and theoretical systematisation to the judicial investigation.

The main areas of interest are:

• Forensic profiling: an investigative technique based on the analysis of the available information about a crime (circumstantial evidence, crime scene data, autopsy reports, medical reports, listening to witness statements).
• Victimology analysis: the study of the characteristics of the victim and the interactive processes that bind them to the offender during the criminal act.
• Ascertaining the authenticity of texts: assessment, reliability of a witness, and proper conduct of the investigation (Article 213 of the Italian Code of Criminal Procedure).
